BOYS BASKETBALL
#3 Los Altos 61, #5 Walnut 48: The question was clear before Friday night’s mammoth collision between both teams, could Walnut improve off their 20-point loss to the Conquerors earlier this season? The answer was clear at the end of the night – only slightly.
The Mustangs kept it close early in the first quarter, but Los Altos (19-4, 9-0) proved to be too much to handle from the second quarter through the end of the game. The victory secured another Hacienda League title for the Conquerors. Jazz Gardner was the leading scorer with 22 points and senior guard C.J. Bellamy had one of his best performances of the season with 21 points.
Malik Khouzam was the leading scorer for the Mustangs with 19 points and Tyler Stevens hit two big 3-point baskets in the fourth quarter and finished with 10 points. Controversy surrounded the finish of the game as Gardner was assessed his second technical foul of the game with 22 seconds left in the fourth period when an official ruled that he hung on the basket following a slam dunk. That meant an automatic ejection that would not have allowed Gardner to play in Saturday’s prime time against Mater Dei.
However, game officials decided to rescind the technical foul, which clears the way for Gardner to play in Saturday’s game.

#1 Damien 75, Los Osos 59: Four players scored in double figures as the Spartans (22-2, 5-1) prepped for Monday’s showdown with Etiwanda with an impressive home win over the Grizzlies. Jimmy Oladokun was the leading scorer for the Spartans with 24 points. Spivey Word added 23 points, Kaleb Smith pitched in 18 points and R.J. Smith chipped in 10 points.
