Northview Football falls short in state championship game, Damien hoops wins St. John Bosco Tournament, Bosco Tech,South Pasadena girls, Los Altos girls and Sonora girls win basketball tournament

Northview Vikings football team were defeated by Sacred Heart Cathedral 48-29 in a CIF State Division 4-A championship game on Saturday at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco. Here is Fred Robledo’s game story for the San Gabriel Valley Tribune

Damien 67, St. John Bosco 47: In a matchup of two of the top boy's basketball teams in Southern California, the Spartans exhibited their dominance with an outstanding effort in the second half to win the championship game of the St. John Bosco tournament.
The Spartans dynamic scoring trio of Jimmy Oladokun, R.J. Smith, and Spivey Word all delivered top performances. Smith, a University of Colorado signee, and Word led the way for the Spartans in scoring with 19 points. Smith was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Jimmy Oladokun added 17 points with nine rebounds and eight blocked shots. Bradley Xie dished out ten assists.
“It was a good win, (Bosco) is a very good team,” Damien coach Mike LeDuc said, who won his 998th game as a coach. “It was close for a long part of the way, we’re just trying to figure it out. It’s been a good week for us.”
The Spartans went on a 14-5 extended run in the second period that proved too much for the Braves to handle. Word had a big second half with 12 points, which included hitting three 3-point baskets.
The Spartans will be back in action with their final tune-up for the Classic at Damien Tournament with a home non-league game against Temecula Valley on Thursday. Kade Bonam was the leading scorer for Bosco with 19 points.


Bosco Tech 70, Rowland 59: The Tigers pulled clear in the final stages of the fourth quarter to defeat the Raiders in the championship game of the Bosco Tech Tournament. Jaden Erami had a double-double with 32 points and 13 rebounds. Darius Benitez pitched in another 18 points.
“This is a big win for us as a team and a program,” Bosco Tech coach Michael Romo said. “Our players made plays down the stretch on both ends and I couldn’t be prouder of them.”

Los Osos 44, Glendora 38: The Tartans couldn’t find the magic Saturday night as Los Osos won the Glendora Tournament. The Grizzlies jumped out to a 16-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back.
Braydon Wooldridge and Luke Jacobson spearheaded the Tartans attack with 13 points. In other games at the Glendora Tournament, Diamond Bar defeated Whittier 80-67 in the third-place game, Bishop Amat overwhelmed Don Lugo 60-42, and San Dimas throttled Arroyo 67-46.
Los Altos 63, Hesperia 42: Jazz Gardner scored 27 points and CJ Bellamy tallied 13 points as the Conquerors concluded St. John Bosco Tournament action with a double-digit win. Los Altos’ record improved to 7-2. The Conquerors are back in with a non-league game on Wednesday at La Serna.
Walnut 63, La Mirada 53: The Mustangs had four different players score in double digits in their win over the Matadores in a St. John Bosco Tournament contest. Tyler Stevens led the scoring attack for the Mustangs with 19 points, with Ryan Win adding 14 points, Malik Khouzam adding 13 points with nine assists and Gavin Ibrahim pumped on 11 points. Aidan Nassar was La Mirada’s leading scorer with 18 points.
Northview 46, El Rancho 34: The Vikings extended their win streak to three games with a home win over the Dons in a non-league basketball game. Sam Osi and Jack Hernandez each contributed 12 points.
Alta Loma 68, Wilson 63: Aiden Chen and Eric Gurrola each scored 16 points, but it was not enough as the Wildcats were narrowly defeated by the Braves in Montclair Tournament action.
Sierra Vista 56, Mountain View 37: The Dons had three players score in double digits with their win over the Vikings in the third-place game of the Bosco Tech Tournament. Hector Viscarra played a starring role in the win scoring a game-high 13 points, with William Pacis scoring 12 points and Jesus Lopez chipped in 11 points.
Monrovia 70, Larchmont Charter 57: In their final prep before the San Gabriel Classic, Alejandro Carvajal played a starring role by scoring 13 points with 6 assists in the Wildcats victory. Jon Cruz had 12 points and 5 steals and Sheeck Morris had 11 points, 7 rebounds, 5 steals and 3 blocks.
San Marino 53, Pasadena Poly 47: Michael Azinge had a double-double, 12 points and 10 rebounds with Aidan Hoang and Jayden Tse adding 11 points as the Titans defeated the visiting Panthers in a non-league game.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

#1 South Pasadena 53, Redondo Union 49: The Tigers opened a 29-20 lead and never looked back in defeating the Seahawks to win the Arroyo Tournament. The Panthers improved their record to 13-1. Allysan Tse was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
#5 Sonora 45, El Dorado 37: The Raiders won the Sunny Hills Showcase Championship on the strength of a big night from Leah Saynes. The senior scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Kiki Graham scored nine points (all on 3-point baskets) and Jazmin Sheikh added eight points with seven rebounds and was named the tournament’s MVP.

Los Altos 49, Artesia 33: The Conquerors won their first tournament of the season with a double-digit win over the Pioneers in the Artesia Tournament. Vhenus Gaoa, who was voted the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, scored a game-high 20 points with Jimena Solorio adding 16 points. Solorio and Hailey Lakey each were named to the all-tournament team. The Conquerors are on a four-game winning streak and will take a bit of a break before returning to the court on Friday for a road non-league game against Saddleback.

Rowland 60, Rio Hondo Prep 49: The Raiders won The Webb Schools Tournament thanks to the efforts of Amira Austin, who scored a game-high 24 points and was named the tournament’s MVP. Ella Cho pumped in 15 points with seven rebounds, five assists and Patricia Shyu added 13 points. The Raiders are now 7-4 on the season.

#3 La Salle 44, Temple City 27: The Lancers rebounded from a tough loss to La Salle on Friday night as they easily dispatched the Rams in the third-place game of the Arroyo Tournament. Audrey Chen scored 18 points and Ryann Riddle chipped in 11 points.
#6 Glendora 38, Covina 31: It was a struggle, but the Tartans defeated the host Colts in the third-place game of the Covina Tournament. Kennedy Herrmann led the Glendora scoring attack with 15 points and Rylie Anderson tallied 12 points. Anderson and Hailey Schaffer were named to the all-tournament team.
Rosemead 43, Don Lugo 33: The Panthers won the consolation championship of the Covina Tournament with a nice win over the Conquistadors. Vivian Duong, who was the to the all-tournament team, spearheaded the Panther's attack with 30 points and snatched eight rebounds. Allison Tran chipped in eight points with 13 rebounds. Rosemead is now 7-3 for the season.
Hart 56, La Canada 22: It was a rough day for the host Spartans as the Indians jumped out to a 23-10 halftime lead and held the Spartans to six points in the third quarter. One of the bright spots for La Canada was Mia Oakley Stilson, who led the scoring attack for the Spartans with seven points, ten rebounds, and three assists. Hart’s Laney Grider tallied a game-high 11 points with three rebounds and three assists. Hart extended their winning streak to seven games and improved their record to 7-2. La Canada’s record dropped to 5-2.
South Hills 49, Sierra Vista 30: Senior Josie Castillo turned in a fine performance as she scored a game-high 17 points and Jaylynn Year, a sophomore, added 14 points in the Huskies win over the Dons in a Covina Tournament game.
Walnut 56, Temecula Valley 31: The Mustangs jumped out to a 15-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and easily cruised to a double-digit win over the Golden Bears at the Bonita/Claremont Tournament Jolleen Olia led the way with 18 points with eight rebounds and Katelyn Lu pitched in 11 points with 3 steals.
La Habra 49, California 46: Valerie Romero played her usual starring role as she scored 20 points and Natalia Sanchez contributed 13 but it was not enough as the Highlanders defeated the Condors in a Covina Tournament basketball affair.
