BASEBALL
Arcadia 5, Charter Oak 2: Daniel Chavez Lance Wong, and Jack Esguerra each banged out two hits to give the Apaches an opening day win over the visiting Chargers in a Pizza Chalet Tournament game. Gabriel Lopez pitched four innings, allowing two runs in five hits, and struck out four to earn the win. Ian Hofstetter pitched a scoreless seventh inning, striking out two hitters, and secured the save. Charter Oak’s Evan Avitia had two hits and Samuel Morales banged out a triple.
South Hills 4, California 3: The Huskies used a flair for the dramatics as Gibby Rosales hit a three-run home run and Marcos Rosales drove in the winning run on a walk-off single in the bottom of the 7th inning to propel the Huskies to a home win over the Condors.
Bonita 5, Upland 1: In the first game of a doubleheader, Luke Mistone, a Cal State Fullerton signee, looked sharp on the mound for the Bearcats as he allowed one run on three hits and struck out six in a complete-game performance. Diego Vasquez drove in two runs.
Upland 8, Bonita 7: The Highlanders scored four runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth to win game two of the doubleheader. Diego Vasquez, Bryan Bradshaw, and Seth Wrightstone each banged out two hits for the Bearcats.
La Salle 9, Diamond Bar 2: Andy Nieto made his debut for the Lancers as coach a winning one as the Lancers scored three runs in the first, third, and fourth innings to beat the host Brahmas. Doug Pyle went 2 for 3 with three RBIs.
La Canada 10, Pasadena 5: Timmy Park was the hero of the day for the Spartans as his grand slam homer in the top of the ninth inning and Josh Proctor connected on a solo home run in a nonleague win over the Bulldogs.
Covina 2, Pomona 0: It was a successful opening day for coach Tim O’Leary as the Colts scored runs in the second and sixth innings to shut out the visiting Red Devils.
Newbury Park 1, St, Francis 0: The Panthers scored the game’s only run in the second inning to defeat the Golden Knights. Luke Fogarty pitched five solid innings, yielding one run on four hits, and struck out seven in the tough-luck loss.
Glendora 11, Downey 2: The Jerry Lewallen era at Glendora started successfully as the Tartans score two runs in the first two innings and three more in the fourth to push past the visiting Vikings.
Kennedy 3, Sonora 2: The Fighting Irish scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull out a home win over the Raiders. Kirk Felikian and Sebastian Zamorano each had two hits.
San Marino 2, Marshall 1: The Titans scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh innings for a thrilling nonleague win over the Eagles. Noah Rivera and Christopher Roe each drove in runs for the Titans. San Marino’s Matthew Begerow struck out seven for San Marino; Travis Delgado fanned six for the Eagles
Schurr 2, Whittier 0: Ramon Brion fanned seven Cardinals in a complete-game victory for the Spartans, and first-year coach Danny Gonzales

SOFTBALL
Glendora 9, San Dimas 1: Sam Meyer and Allison Winovitch each had three hits and Bridget Nemeth tossed five shutout innings as the Tartans won the first game of a doubleheader.
Glendora 4, San Dimas 0: Ashley Hibbard and Haley Ganino combined for a two-hit shutout as the Tartans swept the doubleheader from the hoist Saints. Nemeth went 3 for 4 with two doubles and an RBU.
Arcadia 7, Etiwanda 1: The Apaches got their offense rolling on Saturday as Morgan Howey went 4 for 4, Jasmine Ahdoot went 3 for 4 and Tiara Westbrook went 2 for 3 in a road non-league win over the Eagles.
St. Paul 8, Tesoro 7: Hannah Moreno got the Swordsmen season off an exciting start as her single in the bottom of the seventh inning gave St. Paul a thrilling win over the Titans.
St. Paul 6, Santa Margarita 5: Madison Gasca-Reyes capped off an exciting day for Swordsman fans as her double in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Moreno for the game-winning run in a win over the Eagles.
Marina 5, Whittier Christian 3: Brooklyn Carreon struck out seven in the circle, bit was not enough as the Vikings defeated the visiting Heralds in a nonleague loss.
Foothill 6, Santa Fe 1: Paris Guzman drove in Emma Garcia with the Chiefs only run in the top of the sixth inning in a nonleague loss to the Knights. Santa Fe also suffered a 12-2 loss to JSerra later in the day.
Monrovia 15, Baldwin Park 0, Five innings: The Rams scored eight runs in the fourth inning and cruised to an easy win over the Braves. Sophomore Jocelynn Rangel connected on three doubles. Angelica Oseguea allowed a hit and struck out three hitters in three innings of work to earn the win.
