BASEBALL
Arcadia 1, South Hills 0: In the big area baseball game of the day, Ian Hoffstetter was sensational on the mound for the Apaches as he pitched 6 2/3 shutout innings, allowing 2 hits and fanned 4 to earn the win over the Huskies in a Pizza Chalet quarterfinal game. Lance Wong scored the only run for Arcadia on a passed ball in the first inning. Sterling Patick was also solid on the mound for the Huskies, allowing 1 run on four hits and striking out six.
San Dimas 9, Walnut 3: The Saints got their bats working early as they scored two runs in the first inning and three more in the second off Walnut starter Kyle Calzadiaz to defeat the Mustangs in a Pizza Chalet quarterfinal game. Ryder Young had a big day for the Saints, collecting two hits and driving in two runs. Landon White had three RBIs.
Bonita 10, Hillcrest 2: The Bearcats had four players have two hits each as they rolled to a nonleague win. Luke Mistone, JT Fenton, Seth Wrightstone, and Daniel Munoz had two hits. Mistone and Wrightstone each had home runs. Garrett Patterson allowed two runs on eight hits and fanned six in a complete-game effort to earn the decision.
Charter Oak 8, California 0: Anthony Vasquez was the pitching star of the day in the area as he tossed a complete-game one-hitter for the Chargers in a Pizza Chalet Tournament win over the Condors. Vasquez struck out eight. Nathan Arevalos drove in three runs.
Maranatha 5, Upland 2: Freshman Zach Strickland made his first high school start a winning one as he allowed two runs on five hits and struck out three. Dylan Zdunek went 2 for 4 with two doubles.
Northview 7, LA Wilson 0: Andrew Granados was sharp on the mound for the Vikings as he tossed six shutout innings, allowed three hits, and fanned nine. Ken Rodriguez went 2 for 2 with 2 RBIs.
Diamond Bar 4, Pomona 1: Sean Gonzalez turned in a solid performance for the Brahmas as he allowed one run on five hits and struck out eight in a nonleague win over the Red Devils. Matthew Vargas banged out a 2 RBI double.

SOFTBALL
Los Altos 13, Redlands East Valley 2: The Conquerors roughed up Redlands East Valley pitching as they cruised to a nonleague win. Emma Lopez went 3 for 3, Giselle Mejia went 3 for 5 with a home run and 3 RBI’s, and Malayah Duenas had two home runs and drove in 3 runs.
La Mirada 4, Crescenta Valley 3: Angelica Conde was the hero of the day as her walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning catapulted the Matadors to a thrilling home win. Rebecca Eckart had two solo home runs.
Temple City 13, El Rancho 3: The Rams scored five runs in the second inning, and four more runs in the second and third innings to easily dispatch the Dons. Samantha Womack connected on a grand slam home run. Megan Kho and Mia Guerrero each pitched two innings for Temple City.
San Marino 11, Mayfield 1: It was a very successful opening day for the Titans as they throttled the Cubs in a nonleague game. Claire Streeter drove in three runs and also pitched no-hit innings, allowing one unearned run, and stuck out 12 to earn the win. Kate Brunner went 3 for 3 and Macy Mooney, one of the top catchers in the area, went 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs.
