South Hills and La Salle earn impressive wins at Pizza Chalet Tournament; Bonita and Cal looks sharp at Bonita Softball Tournament.
BASEBALL
PIZZA CHALET TOURNAMENT
Elias Reyes of South Hills (Escarcega)
South Hills 1, Walnut 0: In a matchup of two teams that once played in the Hacienda, the Huskies pitching staff proved too much for the Mustangs to handle. A Loyola Marymount commit, Elias Reyes looked sensational in his first start of the year. He pitched five scoreless innings and struck out nine with a fastball topped on the SGV/Whittier Prep Sports Zone Radar at 93 MPH. South Hills scored their only run of the game off of Walnut starter Jacob Pallan in the fourth inning when Diego Villareal scored Ayden Vieth with a single to right field. Pallan pitched a complete game, allowing six hits and struck out four. Justin Romero and Joseph Moreno pitched one scoreless inning apiece.

La Salle 3, Damien 0: In his first return to a school that he once coached at, the La Salle player made coach Andy Nieto’s return a winning one as they shutout the Spartans. Catcher Chris Cardenas went 2 for 3 and scored twice. Andrew Luna tossed four scoreless innings, struck out five, and earned the decision.
Arcadia 4, La Serna 1: Damian Catano looked sharp in his season debut as he surrendered one unearned run and four hits and struck out two in picking up the win. Avery Truesdale went 1 for 2 and scored twice.
Bishop Amat 5, Charter Oak 0: Izaac Muniz tossed a four-hitter and struck out seven in a complete-game effort. Santiago Ramirez went 2 for 4 with an RBI.
Bonita 8, Kaiser 6: The Bearcats rallied from a 5-2 deficit, scoring four runs in the 6th inning to defeat the Cats. Dominic Garcia went 3 for 3 and Jarrett Kozma had two hits.
Montebello 5, Covina 4, 8 Innings: Roberto Herrera drove in Fernando Cruz with the winning run in the top of the 8th inning as the Oilers pulled out a thrilling win.

AT THE EASTON TOURNAMENT
St. Francis 2, Rio Mesa 1: The Golden Knights scored two runs in the second inning and held on for a thrilling win. Jordan Lewallen has two hits (including a triple) and Noah Aguilar-Tanphanich allowed one unearned run in four innings, with six strikeouts, to pick up the win.
West Ranch 9, La Canada 7: The Spartans let a 6-4 lead get away from them and suffered a season-opening loss. Finn Flower-Hogan, Joe Bell, and Austin Loughrin each had two hits.
NONLEAGUE
Oxford Academy 12, Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary 4: Zander Hernandez went 4 for 4 for the Cardinals.
Rowland 10, Nogales 2: Ethan Lopez went 3 for 3 and drove in three runs in the Raiders win. Juan Cervantes and David Garcia each scratched out two hits.
Glendora 4, Eisenhower 3: The Tartans scored two runs in the first, a run apiece in the second and fourth inning to pull out a narrow win. Aaron Jacobsen hit a two-run home run in the first inning.
Chino Hills 7, Chino 1: Josh Mendez had a big offensively for the Huskies as he went 3 for 4 with a double, a triple, and two RBIs. Junior Max Zaldivar allowed one unearned run on four hits and struck out three to earn the win.

AT THE BONITA TOURNAMENT
California 9, Walnut 0: The CIFSS D2 finalists from 2024 looked every bit the part in their season-opening win. Alexis Salas, a University of New Mexico commit, hit a three-run homer and struck out eight hitters in three innings of relief work. Pricilla Ramirez, a Long Beach State commit, allowed one hit, fanned four, and picked up the win.
Bishop Amat 3, San Dimas 2: The Lancers scored three runs in the fifth inning and hung on for the win. Aiyana Perez went 3 for 3 with an RBI. San Dimas’ Isabella Martinez banged out two hits.
Ayala 8, Summit 5: With the game tied at 3 in the fifth inning, Taelor Walker, a Loyola Marymount commit, doubled to score Marisa Dominguez with the eventual winning run. Walker was 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs.
Yucaipa 5, Glendora 0: Lauren Curiel has two hits for the Tartans.
Alta Loma 7, La Habra 6: Crystal Alatorre had a solo home and drove in another run for the Highlanders in a season-opening loss.
Arcadia 3, South El Monte 0: Samantha Almaraz tossed the area’s first no-hitter of the season. She struck out seven.
