Arcadia's Herrera strikes out 13 in a win over Los Altos; Baldwin Park's Davis throws a five-inning no-hitter.

SOFTBALL
BONITA TOURNAMENT

Arcadia 7, Los Altos 5: Tuesday's win by Arcadia represented a step towards what is expected to be a big season. It was a first step (that a times look a bit disjointed) but it was an important step. The Apaches got a huge effort from Lawyrn Chen as her double to the gap in right-center scoring 3 runs for a 5-2 lead. She also started off the seventh inning with a triple and scored on Isabella Aspeita's sacrifice fly to right for a 7-3 lead.
Arcadia's starting pitcher, Sophia Herrera (last year's Pacific League Pitcher of the Year) was in the circle and her appearance ran the gamut of emotions. She allowed four earned runs on six hits, along with a home run. She also struck out 13 hitters, which included the side in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Los Altos (0-1) received a big effort from Brianah Aleandre as she went 3 for 4 with a solo home run, a triple, and a double. Giselle Mejia, who was the starting pitcher for the Conquerors and suffered the loss, connected on a double in the bottom of the seventh inning which scored two runs.
Arcadia is back in action on Wednesday afternoon with a pool play game against South El Monte while Los Altos will hook up with Diamond Ranch at 5:45. Both games will take place at Wheeler Park.
Monrovia 10, Bonita 8: In the upset of the night in the area, the Wildcats scored five runs in the fourth inning and withstood a late comeback by the Bearcats to earn the win. Junior Kate Nelson went 4 for 5 with a double and drove in two runs. Natalie Huelster, another Junior, banged out a two-run double. Bonita freshman pitcher Serenity Reyes, making her first high school start, struck out 12 hitters. Junior Alyssa Doucette went 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs.
In other area action:
St. Paul 11, Troy 2: Rebounding from their loss to La Mirada last Saturday, the Swordsmen got their offense going by pushing across six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning which proved the difference. Hannah Moreno had three hits (including a home run) and drove in four runs. Gaby Gandara also banged out three hits and collected 2 RBIs.

California 9, Esperanza 4: In a huge early season win, Bella Salas went 4 for 4 with 2 home runs and Ashley Hernandez also went 4 for 4 with two doubles as the Condors secured a road win over the Aztecs.
Glendora 10, Citrus Valley 0: Makenna Coleman connected on a home run and brought in three runs as the Tartans improved their record to 2-1 with a nonleague win.
Whittier Christian 7, Yorba Linda 5: Olivia Wise sent Heralds fans home happy as her double in the bottom of the seventh inning scored two runs that the Heralds the win. Aleena Garcia went 3 for 4.
Schurr 11, Santa Rosa Academy 3: Freshman Samantha Maldonado was 2 for 2 with a 2-run HR over Fence to pace the Spartans at the Corona Tournament.

Baldwin Park 10, Mountain View 0: Junior Jemma Grijalva tossed a complete-game two-hitter and struck out five in a five-inning win.
El Monte 11, San Gabriel 8: The Lions rallied from a 7-5 deficit by scoring three runs in the bottom of the third inning which proved to be the difference in a 5-inning win. Miranda Mejia and Giselle Peralta each scored twice.
Alverno 6, Flintridge Prep 5: Elise Fong and Eliza Gunter each went 2 for 4 and drove in a run but it was not good enough as the Wolves suffered a tough nonleague loss.

BASEBALL
Baldwin Park 18, Keppel 0: In the pitching performance of the day, Jordan Davis hurled a five-inning no-hitter and struck out 12 as the Braves easily defeated the Aztecs to improve their record on the season to 2-0.
St. Francis 1, Glendale 0: The other big pitcher effort of the day came from Lucas Dixon as he tossed a complete game three-hitter and struck out five in a Golden Knights win. Dixon also banged out two hits.
Maranatha 13, LA Poly 2: It was a big day for Eric Zdunek as he hit a double, a triple, and a home run and brought in four runs as the Minutemen easily secured a win in pool play action at the Easton Tournament. Jackson Hisey allowed 1 earned run on one hit and struck out five in four innings pitched to pick up the win.
Walnut 7, Palmdale 1: The Mustangs bounced back nicely from their tough loss to Charter Oak on Saturday with a win in their home season debut. Nick Salas went 2 for 3 and drove in a run. Liam Velasco yielded only one run on two hits and struck out 8 in four innings of work and picked up the win.
Glendora 6, Hillcrest 3: John Nolan was impressive on the mound for Glendora as he allowed one run on two hits and struck out 10 in five innings of work as Glendora picked up their first win of the season at home. Ajay Rollice went 2 for 3 and Aaron Jacobsen brought in 2 runs.
South Pasadena 1, Diamond Bar 0: Ben Regan was sharp on the mound for the Tigers as he held the Brahmas to 2 hits and fanned six in six innings of work and picked up the win. Ben Petrillo pitched a scoreless seventh inning and picked up the save.
San Marino 12, Hoover 0: Senior Tyler Giddings went 3 for 3 and Truman Koch amassed 5 RBIs as the Titans improved their record to 2-o with a home win over the Tornadoes.
California 14, South El Monte 6: The Condors busted out the bats early in this nonleague game by scoring eight runs in the first inning and cruised to an easy home win. Senior Christian Coronado went 3 for 3 and drove in 2 runs and Wil Valenzuela also drove in three runs.
