La Salle girls hoops win season opener; Damien and La Mirada continue to win at Sunny Hills Tournament

GIRLS BASKETBALL
La Salle 71, Campbell Hall 45 – The Lancers outscored the Vikings 25-12 in the third quarter and cruised to a season-opening win. Audrey Chen spearheaded the offensive attack with 14 points with Casey Higgins adding 13 points and Kaden Cortez pumping in 10 points. “First games are always difficult, but I’m proud of our kids competing for 32 minutes and playing unselfishly,” La Salle coach Scott Wiard said.
Sonora 58, Huntington Park 30 – Sonora jumped out to a 26-11 halftime lead and never looked back in winning their season opener. Senior Kiana Graham led the way with 17 points with Kylah Baker adding 15 and sophomore Amiah Lewis tallying 11 points.
South Hills 54, Immaculate Heart 31 – The Huskies had four players score in double figures in their opening-night win. Giselle Griego and Belen Haro paced the offensive attack with 11 points with Jaylynn Year and Alexis Guerrero each tossing in 10 points. Denia Evans grabbed 17 rebounds and 8 blocks.
San Marino 61, Workman 16: The Titans outscored the Lobos 17-2 in the second quarter and cruised to an opening night win. Kailey Woo once again stuff the stat sheet as she scored a game-high 22 points with Chloe Linden adding 11 points.
Chaparral 63, Wilson 34 – Zetta Faasua led the way for Wilson with 22 points.
Western Christian 38, St. Lucy’s 27 – Kira Carroll scored 6 points and Stella Yegge grabbed 11 rebounds for the Regents.
Mayfield 55, St. Monica Academy 17 – Kristen Awakumi led the way for the Cubs with 14 points and Christian Ellis added 13 in the victory.
Northview 70, Bishop Conaty 35: Freshman Neveah Verdines announced her arrival to the area on Tuesday night as she scored 21 points with junior Anella Alba scoring another 13 points in the Vikings win.

BOYS BASKETBALL
AT THE SUNNY HILLS TOURNAMENT
Damien 75, Arlington/Riverside 44: The Spartans improved their record to 2-0 with a convincing win. Xavier Clinton was the leading scorer for Damien with 22 points.
Villa Park 56, Glendora 44: Despite trailing 24-24 at halftime, Villa Park pulled away in the second half to earn the win. Colton Grey led the way for the Tartans with 11 points. Mal Johnson had 21 points for Villa Park. Villa Park will take on Damien on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
La Mirada 67, El Segundo 49: The Matadores also improved its record to 2-0 with a double-digit win. Junior Julien gomez scored 27 points with 7 assists and freshman Gene Roebuck added 13 points.
Ayala 70, Ontario Christian 64: It wasn’t easy but the Bulldogs earned their first win of the season with a win over the Knights. Jaydin Maddox was 7 of 12 from the field and finished the game as the leading scorer with 25 points. Christian Martinez was 5 of 8 from the field and six of six from the free throw line and finished with 17 points.

AT THE SANTA ANA TOURNAMENT
Dana Hills 85, California 58: Tyler Makasakit was the top scorer for the Condors with 20 points and Luke Sanchez contributed 13 points.
AT THE SIERRA VISTA TOURNAMENT
Sierra Vista 53, Bell Gardens 22: Three players scored in double figures for the Dons in their win over the Lancers. Aaron Buna and David Orozco were the top scorers with 13 points and Anson Wei contributed 11 points. Sierra Vista is 2-0
South Hills 72, Montclair 69: It was a big win for the Huskies as Rocky Moore got his first win with the South Hills program. He also got a huge effort from freshman Cruz Valdez with 23 points and Andres Barajas adding 21 points.
Whittier Christian 62, Mountain View 44: It was another big effort for Leland Carrido for the second night in a row as he scored 24 points as the Heralds’ record improved to 2-0 with a double-digit win over the Vikings.
Covina 70, Alhambra 39: Devin Ceballos also had another repeat productive performance as he was the game’s leading scorer with 17 points. Ryan Munoz pumped in 14 points and Adrian Paramo added 13 points.
In other action:
La Canada 73, San Dimas 69: Josh Pastor had the hot hand for the Spartans as he connected on 5 of 7 shots from behind the 3-point arc and led all scorers with 25 points as the Spartans narrowly turned back the Saints. Josh Reynolds all pitched in 17 points.
Diamond Bar 72, Huntington Beach 55: Here is another freshman to keep an eye out on, Tyler West as he made his Brahmas debut a winning one as he was the top scorer with 20 points. Ethan Alfonso added 14 points with Max Gao pitching in 13 points.
Keppel 75, Temple City 46: Ethan Ly had a double-double (25 points and 11 rebounds) in the Aztecs win over the host Rams.
