MOORPARK – After a bit of a slow start to the season, area track athletes got into their groove and many of them performed well on Saturday at the CIF Southern Section Track and Field Masters Meet at Moorpark High School.
The meet serves as a feeder for this week's CIF State Track and Field Championships which will be held at Veterans Stadium in Clovis. No area athletes won gold medals, but many punched their tickets to the state meet.
The best performance of the day was turned in by La Salle's Mia Reid. The senior finished second in the 100 Meter Hurdles, finishing in front of Davis London of St. Bernard and Marlborough's Fallyn Gowans in a three-way photo finish for second place. It was a stacked field as seven of the runners from the race qualified for the state meet.

South Pasadena had a solid day with two athletes qualifying for the state meet. Junior Keeran Murray captured one of the six automatic qualifiers with a fifth-place finish in the boys 800 with a final time of 1:53.80.
A short time later, Mia Holden (also a junior) secured the final automatic qualifier for the state meet in the 300 hurdles with a sixth-place effort in the 300 Hurdles (43.95) – holding off Edison's Lindy Tarvin by .07 seconds. It was a mixed bag for Holden as she just missed qualifying for the state meet in the girls Triple Jump (38-04.50) with a seven-place finish.
