SGV/Whittier Prep Sports Zone: CIFSS Baseball Finals ROUNDUP, May 30th, 2025
Glendora defeats San Dimas to win the Div. 3 title: Marshall and Mountain View suffer tough losses.
DIVISION 3
Glendora 2, San Dimas 0: There will be many words written about this game, but the one thing that can’t be overlooked was the performance from Glendora pitchers Tanner Grable and Brayden Johnson. The duo limited San Dimas hitters to four hits, with each pitcher striking out two. The offensive star of the game was Aaron Jacobsen, as he had two doubles, one of which scored Santiago Garza for a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Jacobsen scored the game’s other run when Joshua Calcanas committed an error on a grounder from Jackson Glaze. San Dimas’ best chance to score came in the sixth inning when the Saints had two runners on with two outs. However, Johnson induced Alex Larios to fly out to Jacobson to end the inning. San Dimas’ Vaughn Coleman got on board in the seventh inning on an infield single, but Jayden Claros flied out to Glaze to end the game and start the Glendora celebration.
The final out as Glendora defeats San Dimas, 2-0.
Glendora’a Aaron Jacobson with an RBI double in the first inning.
DIVISION 6
Estancia 4, Marshall 3: In one of the day's more improbable finishes, Jake Humphries’ double over Marshall’s Jayden Gutierrez head scored three runs, propelling Estancia to an electrifying win. Nate Callaway was the Marshall pitcher who surrendered the winning hit. This result overshadowed an extraordinary pitching performance by Marshall senior Caleb Thatcher, who allowed one run on three hits and struck out 10 in 5.2 innings of work. He was removed due to pitch count rules. Marshall scored all of its runs in the first inning, thanks to an RBI double by Callaway and a 2-RBI single by Ben Muro. Following the game, Coach Joe Federico announced that he is stepping down and will be retiring. Marshall will not accept an invitation to the CIF State Regional Tournament.
The final play in which Estancia defeats Marshall, 4-3.
DIVISION 9
Nuview Bridge 3, Mountain View 2: It seemed like Mountain View was on its way to winning a sectional title. However, the Knights scored three runs in the sixth inning, which were all they needed to secure the championship. Mountain View scored their runs in the third inning on an RBI double by Luka Davila and a run-scoring single by Ryan Molinar. Vikings starter Alex Moreno went the distance, allowing two earned runs on eight hits and striking out six. Nuview Bridge starter Luca Canales struck out six in six innings of work and earned the win. Lara Nelson came in during the seventh inning and struck out the side, earning the historic save.
