Ayala defeats West Torrance in softball; Arcadia pulls out a exciting win over Aliso Niguel in baseball.

SOFTBALL
DIVISION 1
Ayala 7, West Torrance 0: Don’t let the score deceive you; this game was much closer until the latter stages of the contest. It wasn’t until Marisa Dominguez’s RBI double in the fourth inning that the floodgates opened for the Bulldogs. Ayala poured it on in the sixth inning, scoring four runs on the strength of RBI singles by Viviana Jilek and Arianna Ramirez. Allie Lukaszewicz struck out five hitters in four innings as the starter and secured the win. She consistently ranged from 61-63 MPH on her fastball. She is a University of Pittsburgh commit. Junior Lilanna Acosta held West Torrance scoreless for the final three innings and earned the save. She also ranged between 61-62 MPH on her fastball with a 64 TOP. Ayala will host Murrieta Mesa on Saturday.
La Mirada 4, Paraclete 2: Freshman Juliana Rivara broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run homer in the fourth inning that propelled the Matadores into Saturday’s second round. Amanda Urbina had two hits, including an RBI single, along with Riley Hillard. Alison Ortega struck out six in a complete-game performance. La Mirada will travel to Eastvale Roosevelt for a second-round game on Saturday.
Chino Hills 8, Mater Dei 1: The Huskies scored three runs in the first and third innings, cruising to an easy win. Kyler Del Duca hit a two-run homer, and Lyla Gonzalez had a big day with a three-run homer and collected five RBIs. Nadia Juarez tossed a complete game, allowing just one run. Chino Hills will travel to Huntington Beach on Saturday for a second-round contest.
La Habra 11, Upland 1: The Highlanders got their offense going early as they scored six runs in the first inning and five more in the third to defeat Upland in a five-inning affair. Alyssa Hernandez went 3 for 3 and drove in three runs. Madison Payne, a junior, limited Upland to six hits and struck out two batters. La Habra will travel to Etiwanda on Saturday.

California 5, Beckman 1: The top-seeded Condors scored four runs in the fifth inning, which was all they needed to defeat the visiting Patriots. Hailey Chavolla hit a two-run homer over the center field fence that sparked the rally. Pricilla Ramirez, a Long Beach State signee, struck out five in five innings of work and earned the win. Alexis Salas, a University of New Mexico signee, pitched two scoreless innings to earn the save. California will travel to Capistrano Valley on Saturday.
Sonora 8, Villa Park 1: The Raiders left no doubt about who the better team was on Thursday as they scored four runs in the first inning and three more in the second to defeat the visiting Villa Park. Bayle Hunnicutt and Olivia Rosales each hit home runs. Hunnicutt, an Eastern Kentucky signee, struck out seven in a complete-game performance. Sonora will travel to JSerra on Saturday.
Whittier Christian 12, Shadow Hills 0: In another five-inning affair, Victoria Hinostro and Danni Lopez hit home runs to lead the Heralds to a first-round win. Bobbie Lozano allowed one hit and struck out four in a complete-game effort. Whittier Christian will host Los Alamitos on Saturday.

St. Paul 6, Bishop Amat 1: In the area’s game of the day, the Swordsmen turned the tables on the host Lancers, scoring three runs in the fourth inning and two more in the sixth to advance to the second round. Kailee Mejia hit a solo home run, and Sunni Vasquez delivered a single that drove in two runs. Gianelle Napoles allowed one run on six hits with two strikeouts to earn the win. St. Paul will host Alta Loma on Saturday.

Northview 3, Apple Valley 2: An error by an Apple Valley infielder allowed Kalia Dominguez to score the winning run as the Vikings secured a thrilling victory. Clementina Duran struck out seven batters in a complete-game performance. Northview will host Indio on Saturday.

Arcadia 2, Aliso Niguel 1, 11 Innings: It was one of many thrillers in the opening round of the playoffs, but in the end, it was sophomore Tyler Brereton who drove in Julian Salmon on a sacrifice fly to end the marathon and advance the Apaches to the second round. Gus Cooper was magnificent for Arcadia, allowing one earned run on five hits and striking out six. Damian Catano was brought in for relief and pitched two scoreless innings, allowing two hits and picking up the win. Arcadia will travel to Mira Costa on Tuesday.

Tanner Grable had a massive day with three hits, and he scored twice. Daniel Conness drove in two runs. Brayden Johnson struck out 10 in a complete-game effort. Glendora will host second-seeded Yucaipa on Tuesday.

La Serna 4, Oak Hills 3: Xavier Becerra’s single in the top of the fifth inning proved to be the difference as the Lancers secured a thrilling win over the host Bulldogs. Grady Long allowed two earned runs on four hits and struck out two in 5.2 innings of work to earn the victory. Gibson Laracuente, who went 2 for 4 and drove in a run, pitched 1.1 scoreless innings in relief and recorded the save. La Serna will host Liberty on Tuesday.

Flintridge Prep 3, Campbell Hall 2: Will Grable and Ethan Park each had two hits as the Wolves narrowly defeated the host Vikings. Grable also pitched five innings and struck out five as the starter.
Bosco Tech 7, Baldwin Park 2: The Tigers scored six runs in the fourth inning and cruised to an upset victory over the host Braves. Jaycob Ochoa, Roman Valdepena, and Daniel Munoz all hit extra-base hits, with Munoz driving in two runs. Bosco Tech will host Flintridge Prep in an all-area second-round game on Tuesday.
Schurr 3, Cornerstone Christian 2: The Spartans scored three runs in the first inning and held for a road win over the Crusaders. Joshua Calavera went 2 for 3 with a double and drove in two runs. Logan Trevino struck out 11 in a complete-game effort. Schurr will have a road game against Artesia on Tuesday.
