Game of the Day: Monrovia at San Marino
San Marino’s Tomas Bilvado held Monrovia hitless for 5 1/3 innings in a 3-1 win over Monrovia. (Escarcega)
SAN MARINO – Tomas Bilvado picked a great day to pitch his best performance of the season.
The sophomore held Monrovia hitless for 5 1/3 innings to lead San Marino to a 3-1 over the Wildcats to clinch a share of the Rio Hondo League title. Monrovia’s Jack Zinn broke up the no-hitter with a line-drive single to left in the sixth inning. Bilvado allowed only two hits and struck out five.
The Titans scored a run in the first and second innings. Monrovia’s defense, which has cost them several games this season, betrayed them again in the first inning when shortstop Camden Conklin failed to cleanly field a ground ball hit by Coleman Morning that allowed Sid Danenhauer to score. Leadoff hitter Tyler Giddings’ single to right field scored J.J. Wilson in the second inning for a 2-0 lead.
Wilson had a big day offensively for San Marino as he went 2 for 3.
San Marino’s Truman Koch. (Escarcega)
Monrovia’s best chance to take the lead came in the sixth inning when the Wildcats loaded the bases with Titan's relief Nico Osegueda on the mound with a little controversy. Dario Camera swung and missed on a 3-2 pitch, but the ball hit him.
After a brief meeting, the umpires ruled that Camera had struck out for the second out of the inning which left Monrovia fans upset with the decision. Osegueda fanned Jacob Calnon to end the threat and he also retired the side in order in the seventh inning to pick up the save.
Monrovia pitcher Alex Myers (Escarcega)
Alex Myers was the starting pitcher for Monrovia and lasted 3 2/3 innings, surrendering three runs on five hits and striking out two.
