Recap: Anthony Vasquez, a Cal Poly Pomona signee, kept the Vikings bats quiet on Monday as he tossed a complete-game four-hitter and struck out 8. He also helped his own cause by getting on base safely twice. At one point in the game, Vasquez retired seven hitters in a row. Northview’s Sal Batres matched Vasquez pitch-for-pitch as he allowed only three hits and fanned six hitters.
Charter Oak scored their only run of the game in the third inning when Diego Ortiz connected on a sacrifice fly to left field that brought in Samuel Morales with the only run of the game. Northview’s best opportunity to score came in the top of the second inning with the bases loaded and two outs. However, lead-off hitter Dean Curley grounded out to second baseman Josiah Martinez to end the threat.
With the victory, Charter Oak (8-3, 3-0) is a half-game behind San Dimas in the league standings while Northview (0-3, 3-8) drops into a fourth-place tie. Northview also saw its road record drop to 1-5 with Charter Oak’s home record improving to 5-1.

Recap: The visiting Spartans won their third straight game on the strength of an outstanding pitching effort from Andrew Carter as he surrendered one unearned run on three hits and struck out six to pick up the win. The Spartans scored both of their runs in the fourth inning without getting a hit. With the win, the Spartans (7-3-2, 4-0) have a game-and-a-half lead on Los Osos at the top of the Baseline League standings.

Recap: Nick Mejia had himself quite the day for the Mustangs in their road Hacienda League win over Wilson. Offensively, Mejia went 4 for 4 with an RBI and scored twice. Austin Calzadiaz also scratched out three hits and drove in a run. Walnut scored two runs in the fourth inning and three more in the sixth to earn the win. Erick Felix allowed one run on two hits and struck out four in six innings of work to pick up the win.

Recap: The Apaches posted four runs in the fourth inning and nine more in the fifth to easily secure a road Pacific League win over the host Mustangs. Fernando Palencia had two hits, including a double, and also tossed four innings, giving up two hits and striking out seven. Acery Truesdale went 2 for 2 and collected two RBIs.

Sid Danenhauer had the big day offensively for the Titans as he went 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs. With the loss, the Tigers (9-5, 4-2) still lead the Rio Hondo League championship race with a half-game advantage over Monrovia.

Recap: The Wildcats wasted a golden opportunity to move into the lead for the league championship as the Spartans scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull out a key Rio Hondo League win. La Canada sophomore Josh Proctor had two hits and amassed three RBIs. Monrovia’s Jared Cardenas and Jack Zinn each banged out two hits. La Canada remains in third place in the league standings.

THE HIGHLIGHTS
Schurr’s Emma Mendizabal and Estrella Perez combine to throw a perfect game against the Oilers. Mendizabal threw 3 innings and struck out 7 of the 9 batters. Perez finished the last 2 innings and had 2 Ks. Jenna Franklin paced the Spartans going 3 for 4 and Jessica Soriano had a Double and Triple.
Amanda Urbina hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning and Montserrat Reyes-Cardenas struck out nine in her first start for La Mirada in the Matadores’ 4-3 win over Warren.
Sela Halaholo threw a complete-game three-hitter and struck out eight in Walnut’s 10-0 win over Wilson. Terri Williams, Isabella Murrieta, and Allisyn Reyes each banged out three hits.
Naima Williams had three hits for El Monte in their 10-5 loss to South El Monte
Northview’s Ariel Fierro had a double, and a triple, and drove in two runs in the Vikings’ 10-7 win over Charter Oak in Valle Vista League action. Sarah Diaz went 2 for 3 and collected for 4 RBIs for the Vikings.
Covina’s Lexi Sumpter tossed a four-hitter and struck out six in Covina’s 10-0 home win over West Covina in six innings. Samantha Medrano went 2 for 3 and brought in three runs.
Alyssa Garcia threw 6 innings and fanned seven hitters on only 70 pitches in Duarte’s 11-1 Montview League win over Azusa. Freshman Valeria Nunez went 3 for 4 with a triple, scored twice and drove in two runs.
Mika Yuge had two hits but it was not enough as La Serna had its nine-game winning streak snapped in their 5-3 loss to Mater Dei.
