Roster for the San Gabriel Valley Baseball All-Star Game at South Hills are announced; three area golf teams will CIF-SS titles.
Glendora’s Braydon Wooldridge will be part of the “Blue Team” in the 26th annual San Gabriel Valley Baseball All-Star Game on June 5th at South Hills HS.
Many of the area’s top senior baseball players will be showcasing their talents in the 26th annual San Gabriel Valley Baseball All-Star game that will take place on June 5th at South Hills High School.
The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m and players will be competing for awards that will include the Most Valuable Defensive Player Award, Cory Lidle Most Valuable Pitcher Award, the Jeremy Giambi Most Valuable Hitter Award, and the Most Valuable Player Award.
The “Red Team” will have a coaching staff that includes Covina’s Tim O’Leary and Marcis Bugarin, Charter Oak’s Charles Green, and South Hills’ Mike Parisi.
The roster is chock full of talented baseball players. Covina, San Dimas, and South Hills will have four players each from their squad. The Colts players include Andrew Frausto, Mark Manuel, Isiah Pacheco, and Ryan Perez. Robert Castilo, one of the top shortstops in the area, headlines a solid group of players from San Dimas that includes Jake Ferretti, Advan Garcia, and Matthew Romero.
Long Beach State signee Matt Lorenzano will be part of a talented group of players from South Hills that includes Dylan Esquival, Gilbert Morales, and Kai Penuelas. Arcadia, champions of the Pacific League, will have three players represented which include Danny Chavez, Alex Dolan, and clutch hitting Lance Wong. Bonita, the Palomares League champions, will also have three players participating in the game and they are Cal State Fullerton signee Luke Mistone, JT Fenton, and Seth Wrightstone.
Walnut’s threesome that has been tabbed to play are Cal State Fullerton signee Kyle Calzadiaz, Matthew Leyva, and Cesar Chavez. Los Altos will be represented by the duo of David Castillo and Jesse Rojas. Baldwin Park, which will play for a CIF Southern Section Div. 7 title this weekend at Cal State Fullerton, had two players chosen – Ricky Rodriguez and Jason Martinez.
Charter Oak’s talented pitcher Evan Avitia, Glendora’s uber-talented Braydon Woolridge, and Schurr’s Ramon Brion are also on the roster.
The “Blue Team” will be coached by Pasadena Poly’s John Moe and Wayne Lovett. Two of the players from the squad were picked and they were Sam Howell and Jason Mayo. USC signee Mikey Ebner headlines a solid “three-pack” from Maranatha that includes Nick Cook and Cam Andrews. Bishop Amat will have three players representing their school and they include talented shortstop Frankie Peralez, Jacob Hernandez, and Alejandro Morales.
Monrovia, champions of the Rio Hondo League, will be represented by Michael Castelli, Ryan Oliva, and Andrew Primucci. Damien had two players selected and they are Jason Armendariz and Dom Gomez. Doug Pyle, one of the top pitchers in the west region of the valley, and teammate Evan Narah will be representing La Salle HS and Northview will have two players participating in Ivan Barragan and Diego Frey.
Three other players from the Rio Hondo League will be part of the roster, Adam Geller (La Canada), Owen Grannis (San Marino), and Alex Hodis (South Pasadena). Arroyo will have two players in the game, Aaron Martinez, and Mike Valenzuela. Marshall’s Travis Delgado, Nogales’ Daniel Avena, and Pasadena’s Ben Griffith round out the roster.
Gates will open at 10:45 a.m, with batting practice beginning at 11:00 a.m. introductions at 12:40 p.m, a coaches Hall of Fame ceremony will start at 12:50 p.m. and the annual first pitch ceremony is slated for 12:57 p.m.
THREE AREA TEAMS WIN CIF SOUTHERN SECTION REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
It was a big day on Monday for area golf teams as three teams earned sectional championships and another team finished in second place.

At the Division 3 team championship at Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills, La Canada (386) won a tie-breaker criterion over Cypress (386). It was the first-ever sectional title for the program. Sophomore Logan Kim was the low scorer for the Spartans with 74. Ian Ricci, another sophomore, carded a 75.
At the Division 5 team championship that also was hosted by Los Serranos Country Club, Temple City also won its first-ever sectional title with a combined team score of 401. Kai Hirayama, one of the top golfers in the west region of the valley, posted an impressive score of 67 with teammate Dillon Kim, junior, posting a 76.
In the Division 6 team championship that took place at Jurupa Hills Golf Course, Flintridge Prep secured its first-ever golf sectional title with a team score of 382, 12 strokes ahead of Fairmont Prep. Freshmen Kaiden Hong was solid all afternoon as he carded a 69 with teammate Henry Tolleson, a junior, shooting a 73.
In the Division 2 team championship at Soule Park, Diamond Bar took second place, with Loyola (375) taking the divisional title, with a combined score of 383. David Cho shot a 72 and Henry Yang posted a 73,
The action picks up on Thursday with the SCGA Qualifying and CIF-SS Individual Championships that will be held on Thursday at the River Ridge Country Club in Oxnard, with the CIF State Regional Tournament hosted by Brookside Gold Course on May 26th and the CIF State Tournament that will take place on June 1st at San Gabriel Country Club in San Gabriel.
