La Serna takes control of the DRL race with a home win; Los Altos defeats South Hills in softball.

BASEBALL
DEL RIO LEAGUE
La Serna 5, California 2: In a game that had huge ramifications on the league title race, sophomore Grady Long turned in one of his better performances as he allowed two runs on five hits and struck out five in six innings of work. His fastball topped at 85 MPH. The Lancers took control of the game in the bottom of the second inning with RBI singles from Dominic Segura and Mikey Alvarez. Cal’s Efren Magallanes accounted for the team’s only runs with a single to right field that scored Adam Vitela and Josh Ibarra. With the win, La Serna has a two game lead on the Condors heading into the series finale on Friday at California HS.

Santa Fe 7, Whittier 1: The Chiefs scored five runs in the first inning and cruised to an easy win. Ethan Lopez and Josiah Acosta each had two hits. James Rubio struck out four in five innings of work and picked up the win.
BASELINE LEAGUE
Chino Hills 1, Damien 0: Brody Buoncristiani’s pitching performance was the main headline of this game as he held the Spartans to one hit and struck out seven in 5.1 innings and earned the victory. Josh Mendez drove in Matt Mendez with a single in the bottom of the first inning. Andrew Torres struck out four in six innings for the Spartans.
FREEWAY LEAGUE
La Habra 5, Yorba Linda 0: Bobby Brooks went 2 for 4 with a double as the Highlanders took the series from the Mustangs with a road win. Isaac Aguirre tossed a four-hitter and struck out eight.
HACIENDA LEAGUE
South Hills 3, San Dimas 1: The Huskies tallied three runs in the first inning and made the most of them in a road win over the Saints. Ayden Vieth accounted for all the runs with a three-run home run. Joseph Moreno, who announced earlier in the day that he had committed to St. Mary’s, struck out seven in earning the decision.
PREP LEAGUE
Pasadena Poly 11, Providence 1: Caiden Kennedy, a sophomore, hit a solo home run, and Harrison Unanue had two hits as the Panthers throttled the Pioneers. Connor Poon fanned seven hitters in a complete-game performance.
NONLEAGUE
Maranatha 8, Lompoc 2: UCLA commit Zach Strickland struck out 14 hitters in a home win at Jackie Robinson Park and pitched six hitless innings. Josh Proctor, an Oregon State commit, had three hits (including a home run) and drove in three runs.
Pasadena 5, Glenn 2: The Bulldogs scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to capture a key road win. Junior Kaleb Derosier had three hits, including a double and a triple, with Fabio Castillo driving in three runs.
La Canada 14, South El Monte 1: Taylor Parrille had a career day as he hit four doubles and drove in six runs in the Spartans' win.
Flintridge Prep 14, Alhambra 3: Calvin Chen went 2 for 4 and Spencer Wolfe drove in three runs as the Wolves easily turned back the Moors at Moor Field.

Chino Hills 11, Upland 8: In a wild game that saw both teams score 19 runs on 28 hits with three errors, Huskies senior Kyler Del Duca hit two solo home runs, with Lianna Ferrara adding another solo home run in a road win. Freshman Brett Lambrecht went 3 for 4.
HACIENDA LEAGUE
Los Altos 4, South Hills 1: The Conquerors broke a 1-1 tie by scoring three runs in the top of the seventh inning to sweep the series from the Huskies. Brianah Alejandre, a UCLA signee, got the Los Altos offense going with a solo home run in the top of the first inning. Alejandre finished the game with three hits, and Hannah Vargas’s double in the seventh drove in three runs. Kaylahni Duenas allowed one unearned run on four hits and struck out five in a complete-game effort.
