La Mirada picks up key win win at Boras Tournament; Bishop Amat defeats St. Paul in baseball and softball.
BASEBALL
At The Boras Classic
At the Mater Dei HS Venue
La Mirada 7, Birmingham 0: The Matadores got off the starting gate in a hurry as they scored six runs in the first inning and never looked back. They received two home runs in the first, a grand slam home run by Travis Friend, a Loyola Marymount commit, and sophomore standout Bear Calvo (two run homer). Jacob Oropeza tossed four shutout innings and picked up the win. La Mirada will take on Huntington Beach on Wednesday at Mater Dei at 3:00.
Mater Dei 1, Ayala 0, 9 innings: Mater Dei’s Dylan Wetzel drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Monarchs a thrilling win. Ayala will take on Cypress on Wednesday at noon.
At the JSerra HS Venue
Vista Murrieta 2, Maranatha 1: The Broncos broke a 1-1 tie by scoring a run in the sixth inning that proved to be the difference. It was a big game for UCLA commit Zach Strickland as he went 2 for 3 offensively and allowed one run on three hits with nine strikeouts in five innings on the mound. Maranatha will take on Cathedral Catholic on Wednesday at JSerra at noon.
At the Anaheim Lions Tournament
California 2, Kennedy 1: The Condors rallied from a 1-0 deficit by scoring a run in the sixth and seventh innings to pull out the win. Ricky Gonzalez and Efren Magallanes drove in the runs.
ALMONT LEAGUE
Alhambra 6, Bell Gardens 4: The Moors jumped out to a 5-0 lead and held off a late rally by the Lancers to pick up the win at Veterans Park. Junior Marc Hernandez hit a two-run homer.
Schurr 9, San Gabriel 0: Logan Trevino tossed a one-hitter and struck out 12.
Montebello 1, Keppel 0: Fernando Cruz threw a two-hitter and fanned right.
DEL REY LEAGUE
Bishop Amat 4, St. Paul 1, 9 innings: The Lancers scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to pull out an exciting road win over the Swordsmen. Roman Spencer brought in the eventual winning run when the pitch hit him. Justin Peinado followed with an RBI single. Izaac Muniz struck out 11 in 5.2 innings of work. St. Paul’s Kalai Benavente allowed one run and struck out four in 5 innings of work. Both teams will play again on Friday.
La Salle 6. Paraclete 3: The Lancers scored three runs in the first and seventh innings to pull out a road win. Aiden Grey had a triple that scored three runs, and Andrew Luna went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs.

Edgewood 8, Pomona 4: Maddox Murillo went 2 for 4 and drove in three runs for the Lions in a road win.
MONTVIEW LEAGUE
Baldwin Park 2, Nogales 1, 8 innings: Isaiah Felix was the hero of the day as he drew a walk that scored Gadiel Castellanos with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Azusa 4, Garey 3: Aidan Sanchez and Jacob Elliot turned in solid efforts offensively with three hits.
PALOMARES LEAGUE
Glendora 13, Diamond Bar 0: Brayden Johnson tossed a one-hitter and struck out 13. Kai Zieta went 2 for 4 and drove in three runs.
Bonita 7, Claremont 0: Junior Adam Raab held the Wolfpack to one hit in four innings of work and picked up the decision. Andrew Sanchez hit a solo home run.
NONLEAGUE
La Habra 5, San Marcos 1: Angel Acuna was sharp on the mound for the Highlanders as he allowed one run on five hits and struck out five in five innings of work to earn the win. Bobby Fierro and Jonah Mayo each collected two hits.
Santa Fe 5, Charter Oak 2: The Chiefs scored two runs in the sixth that propelled them to a road win. Sebastian Macias played a considerable role offensively with three hits and two RBIs.
La Canada 5, Oak Park 3: The Spartans extended their winning streak to four games with a road win over the Eagles. Will Park and Joe Bell each connected on triples.
Whittier Christian 6, Alta Loma 5: Gabe Garcia, Zion Park, and Alex Valencia each scratched out two hits.

Keppel 19, San Gabriel 1: Sarah Lucero allowed one unearned run, one hit, and struck out 11 in a complete-game effort.
DEL REY LEAGUE
Bishop Amat 6, St. Paul 5: The Lancers rallied from a 4-3 deficit by scoring three runs in the fifth inning and held off a late comeback by the host Swordsmen. Avery Hipolito and Eliana Meza each drove in two runs. Aleena Gutierrez went 2 for 3 and amassed 3 RBIs.
FREEWAY LEAGUE
Sonora 6, Villa Park 4: Brooke Piwowar and a double that drove in three runs and Bayle Hunnicutt struck out five in a complete-game performance.
La Habra 6, El Dorado 5: The Highlanders scored four runs in the fifth inning and made the most of them in a home league win. Alyssa Hernandez hit a three-run home run.

Nogales 14, Azusa 11: Jayda Eaton, a senior, was the offensive standout for the Nobles with four hits, including two doubles, and an RBI.

Whittier Christian 17, Village Christian 2: It was another standout performance for junior Bella Perez as she brought in a game-high four runs. Joy Jung went 2 for 2 with 3 RBIs

Bonita 11, Claremont 4: Skyy Hicks and Koa Puppe hit home runs for the Bearcats.
Diamond Bar 4, Glendora 2: In the upset of the day in the area, the Brahmas broke a 1-1 tie by scoring two runs in the fourth inning, which proved to be the difference. Glendora’s Kylie Coleman went 2 for 3 and connected on a double.
VALLE VISTA LEAGUE
San Dimas 3, Diamond Ranch 2: Isabella Martinez allowed two hits and struck out four in six innings of work for the Saints.
NONLEAGUE
Flintridge Sacred Heart 6, Rio Hondo Prep 1: Sophomore Siena Gundersen had three hits, including two doubles, and drove in a run for the Tologs.
West Covina 4, Capistrano Valley Christian 2: Danielle Diaz connected on three hits, and Hazel Manzano drove in three runs for the Bulldogs.
San Marino 13, Pasadena 3: Elizabeth Esbenshade had two doubles with two RBIs, and Madeline Bilvado went 3 for 4, with two doubles, and drove in three runs in the Titans' road win.
