La Serna holds off Santa Fe in Del Rio League baseball; South Hills defeats Alta Loma in softball.

BASEBALL
DEL RIO LEAGUE
La Serna 7, Santa Fe 5: The Lancers scored two runs in the third and four more in the fifth and held off a late rally from the Chiefs to earn a huge DRL road win at Metro Little League Park in Santa Fe Springs. The Lancer player that proved to be a thorn in the side of Santa Fe fans was designated hitter Dominic Segura. The senior connected on a double to the gap in left/center field that scored two runs in the third inning. He also connected on a three-run home over the center field fence with an exit velocity of 78 MPH. Chris Soto, Gibson Laracuente, and Segura accounted for six of the nine La Serna hits. Grady Long, pitching while under the weather, allowed one run on three hits and struck out two in four innings of work and picked up the win. He reached an 84 TOP on his fastball. His record improved to 3-2 with a 2.40 ERA. The Chiefs had four players with two hits, with James Oregon being one of those players, as he hit a double in the sixth inning that drove in a run. Devin Mora came in relief and stabilized the situation with 2.2 scoreless innings with a strikeout with his fastball TOP of 79. With the win, La Serna moves into a tie for first place in the league standings with California High at 3-1. Santa Fe dropped into a tie with El Rancho for third place at 2-2.
El Rancho 5, Whittier 2: The Dons scored two runs in the sixth inning that propelled them to a run victory over the Cardinals. Alex Aparicio went 2 for 3 and drove in two runs. Whittier’s Jacob Frias, a senior, collected 2 RBIs and drove in a run.
FREEWAY LEAGUE
Sonora 13, Esperanza 1: Sonora scored seven runs in the third inning, and that was all they needed to defeat the visiting Aztecs and move into first place in the league standings. Tucker Hunnicutt went 3 for 5 and drove in three runs. Junior Robby Blaine allowed one run on two hits and struck out seven in six innings of work to earn the win. His record improved to 5-1 with 1.09 ERA.
GATEWAY LEAGUE
La Mirada 17, Downey 6: The Matadores got their bats going in the late stages of the game as they scored five runs in the fifth and eight in the sixth to sweep the three-game series from the Vikings. Will Gurney, a transfer from Mira Costa, hit two home runs (with 7 RBIs), and Travis Friend, a Loyola Marymount commit, had two hits – with a triple – and drove in three runs. La Mirada will be in North Carolina next week for the National Invitational.
HACIENDA LEAGUE
South Hills 4, Los Altos 3, 9 innings: Wesley Manning was the hero of the day as his sacrifice fly to left field scored Gabriel Guerrero with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Freshman Aiden Mirabel had two hits, including a double. Justin Romero tossed four shutout innings in relief, with two strikeouts, and picked up the win. Joseph Moreno struck out seven in five innings as the starter. Los Altos’ Logan Guevara and Miguel Arroyo each banged out two hits, and Jacob Vargas drove in two runs.
MISSION VALLEY LEAGUE
South El Monte 10, Mountain View 0, 5 innings: Senior Ryan Leon tossed a 5-inning one-hitter and struck out nine to pick his second win of the season. Matthew Medina had three hits and drove in two runs.
Gabrielino 6, El Monte 5: The Lions scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out an exciting home win. El Monte’s Jaime Hernandez had two hits and drove in two runs.
OLYMPIC LEAGUE
Maranatha 3, Heritage Christian 1: Matt Vasquez was sharp on the mound for the Minuteman as he tossed six scoreless innings with four hits and struck out seven to pick up the win. He is 2-0 in 2025 with a 2.24 ERA.
NONLEAGUE
Bonita 3, Santiago/Corona 2: The Bearcats scored three runs in the fourth inning and held on for a road win. Josh Angely hit a double that drove in two runs. Andrew Sanchez tossed three scoreless innings in relief and secured the victory.
La Canada 12, Oakwood 0: Joe Bell struck out five in four innings of work to pick up the win as the Spartans rebounded from their loss to Monrovia with a nice home win.

South Hills 5, Alta Loma 2: The Huskies rebounded from their loss to Los Altos with a home win over the Braves. Parker Milton was sharp in the circle for South Hills as she tossed 4.2 scoreless innings, allowed one hit, and struck out 12. Senior Katelyn Saguin connected on a solo home run, and Avery Bowers had two hits.
MISSION VALLEY LEAGUE
South El Monte 10, Mountain View 0: Nadine Gutierrez turned in the pitching performance of the day in the area as she tossed a complete-game two-hitter and struck out five. Her record in the 2025 season improved to 9-3 with a 2.32 ERA. Jazmine Leyva hit a two-run home run.
El Monte 14, Gabrielino 2: Sophomore Eve Reyes was the offensive standout of the game with two doubles, a triple, and two RBIs. Naima Rodriguez went 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs. Victoria Valdez struck out three in three innings of work and earned the win.
