Schurr 71, Montebello 69: When these two intracity rivals hook up, you can throw the records out and bank on a close game with emotions riding high. That is exactly what happened on Thursday night.
The Spartans (9-13, 5-2) appeared well on their win to a comfortable win, opening up a lead by as many as 12 points in the first half. But the Oilers (8-16, 1-8) rallied in the third quarter and, thanks to a buzzer-beating basket by Isiah Rouss at the end of the third quarter, took a 52-49 lead at the end of the stanza.
Both teams exchanged baskets for the majority of the fourth quarter, but Anthony Vargas’ basket and foul with 46.8 seconds left in the fourth quarter gave Schurr a 68-64 lead that they would not relinquish.
Ethan Ceniceros was the leading scorer for Schurr with 26 points with Andrew Mata contributing 22 points. Montebello’s Rouss led all scorers with 27 points. Both teams will match up again on Friday at Schurr.





#2 St. Francis 67, Cleveland 30: The Golden Knights (22-5) had three players score in double figures in a nonleague win. For the second night in a row, Buckley DeJardin was the leading scorer for the Golden Knights with 14 points. Jake Goldberg pumped in 11 points and George Tupy tallied 10 points.
#7 Glendora 76, Claremont 59: The Tartans (16-9, 6-3) broke open a close game in the fourth quarter as they outscored the Wolfpack 24-14 for a Palomares League win. Noah Smith turned in a fabulous effort as he scored a game-high 30 points with Braydon Wooldridge contributing 16 points and Luke Jacobson pitching in 13 points.
#8 La Canada 43, Monrovia 34: It was a struggle, but the Spartans (17-7, 6-2) pulled away in the final stages of the fourth quarter to defeat the host Rams. David Garland showed the way for La Canada with 14 points and Ty Reynolds contributed 11 points.
Keppel 60, San Gabriel 34: Jerran Sumimoto turned in a top effort for the Aztecs (10-7, 3-3) as he scored 23 points and sophomore Ryan Osborne added 22 points with 13 rebounds in an Almont League win over the Matadors.
La Mirada 42, Mayfair 38: The Matadors (12-13, 5-0) clinched the Suburban League title with a narrow win over the Monsoons. Aidan Nassar was the leading scorer with 15 points and Julien Gomez tossed in 13 points.
Bosco Tech 88, Magnolia Science Academy 57: Jaden Erami scored a team-high 15 points and Darius Benitez added 14 points for the Tigers (15-11, 1-8) in a nonleague win.
Sierra Vista 67, United Christian Academy 50: The Dons reached the 20-win mark for the season on the strength of a big performance from Hector Lopez with a game-high 31 points. Jesus Lopez tossed in 14 points. Sierra Vista’s record is 20-6.

#2 Sonora 68, Buena Park 36: The Raiders (19-6, 10-0) capped off a perfect Freeway League campaign with a double-digit win over the Coyotes. Leah Saynes pace the offensive attack for Sonora with 22 points with Jazmin Sheikh adding 15 points and Larissa Robles tossing in 14 points.

#3 La Salle 67, St. Joseph 25: Kaden Cortes and Ryann Riddle each scored 11 points for the Lancers (21-2, 7-0) in a Camino Real League win.
#4 Bonita 56, Alta Loma 14: The Bearcats (17-7, 10-0) capped off a remarkable Palomares League season run with an easy win over the Braves. Bryanna Graham showed the way for Bonita with 19 points.
Claremont 63, #7 Glendora 53: The Wolfpack swept the season series from the Tartans (19-9, 6-4) with a road win Palomares League win. Kennedy Herrmann was the leading scorer Glendora with 17 points and Rylie Anderson added 12 points.
Covina 45, West Covina 41: The Colts (19-8, 8-20 clinched a share of the Valle Vista League title with a home win over the Bulldogs.


San Dimas 65, Diamond Ranch 36: The Saints (15-7, 8-2) had three players score in double figures over the host Panthers to clinch a share of the Valle Vista League title. Janessa Rodriguez had a double-double (12 points, 14 rebounds), Allison McGill tossed in 13 points and Priscilla Romero led all scorers with 15 points.

Northview 66, Charter Oak 43: Kristin Morella had the hot hand for the Vikings (17-10, 7-3) as she connected on seven 3-point baskets en route to finishing the game with a team-high 24 points in a Valle Vista League win. Sammy Martinez had a double-double (18 points, 13 rebounds) and Phoenix Raso chipped in 12 points.
Troy 45, La Habra 29: Lerissa Rojas spearheaded the Highlanders attack with nine points and Mallory Sidoti added 8 points but was not enough as the Highlanders (12-13, 3-7) suffered a Freeway League loss to the Warriors.
Sierra Vista 31, Workman 24: The Dons opened a 14-5 lead after the first quarter and never looked back in clinching the Montview League win over the Lobos.
Pioneer 65, Artesia 31: Nia Thompson scored a game-high 15 points and Marina Interiano added 12 points for the Titans in a 605 League win.

Bishop Amat 2, La Salle 0: The Lancers clinched the Del Rey League title on the strength of goals by Mimi Dominguez and Jasmine Delgado.
California 4, Whittier 2: Clarissa Pelayo had a big day for the Condors as she scored two goals and had two assists in a Del Rio League win over the Cardinals.
Diamond Bar 4, Rowland 1: Alexis Fuller was the star of the match as she had a hat trick with three goals for the Brahmas in a Hacienda League win over the Raiders. Shantell Luna had Diamond Bar’s other goal.
Wilson 3, Walnut 1: Masyn Ramos, a junior, scored the only goal of the game for the Mustangs in a Hacienda League home loss to the Wildcats.
South Hills 4, Los Altos 0: The Huskies scored three goals in the first half and shut out the host Conquerors in Hacienda League action. Sydney Cotter led the way for the Huskies with 2 goals with Mariela Garcia and Sarah Venegas each scoring a goal.
Schurr 3, Alhambra 1: The Spartans broke up a 1-1 tie by scoring two goals in the second half to defeat the Moors at Moor Field and clinch the Almont League championship.

WRESTLING
Rio Hondo League Championships: It was a big day for La Canada as 10 wrestlers won individual championships and 21 wrestlers qualified for the CIF Southern Section Individual Tournament that will take place next week. The wrestlers that won league titles included Cameron Fernando (113), Mike Manzano (120), Clive Fernando (126), Eli Mulheim (132), Jonah Kim (138), Alex Mykalo (145), Nick Wu (152), Miles Johnstone (170), and Bryan Green (285).
Other area league champions included San Marino’s Ryan Arrington (220) and Julian Solis (182), and Monrovia’s Jacob Gonzalez (106).
