HIGHLIGHTS
- Candice Puig tossed a one-hitter in La Serna’s 8-0 win over La Habra
- Ava Galvan threw a five-hitter in Santa Fe’s 5-0 win over Lakewood
- Abbie Duarte connected on a 3-run home for St. Paul in their 11-10 loss to St. Anthony.
- Robyn Guitron struck out 13 in Keppel’s 6-3 win over Cerritos.
- Celeste De La Cueva had three hits with 2 RBIs in Baldwin Park’s 11-1 win over Mountain View.
NONLEAGUE
La Serna 8, La Habra 0: It was opening day for the La Serna softball, and they once again showed why they are one of the elite teams in the area. With a lineup that didn’t include some of the top returning players, the Lancers banged out 13 hits, which included two home runs, to overwhelm the host, Highlanders. La Serna scored three runs in the second and fifth innings and added two more in the sixth. Emma Apodaca and Elissa Guerrero hit two-run round-trippers. Sophomore Candice Puig tossed a one-hitter and struck out three. Her fastball was consistently between 59-61 MPH, topping at 62.
Santa Fe 10, Lakewood 0: Ava Galvan was solid in the circle for the host Chiefs as she hurled a complete game five-hitter and struck out two. Saryah Razo hit 4 for 4 and hit a home run.
Los Altos 6, Liberty 2: Brianah Alejandre connected on a two-run home run, and Isabella Falomir allowed one earned run on two hits and struck out five in six innings of work to earn the win.
St. Anthony 11, St. Paul 10: In a game that saw both teams combined for 21 runs on 25 hits, the Swordsmen mounted a late rally by scoring three runs in the bottom of the 6th inning but came up short. Abbie Duarte hit a three-run homer, and Kailee Mejia collected three hits.
Keppel 6, Cerritos 3: Robyn Guitron allowed five hits and struck out 13 hitters in a complete-game effort to earn the decision. Isabella Valdez went 2 for 2 and scored twice.
Monrovia 2, Sierra Vista 1: Angelica Oseguera turned in a huge effort in the circle as she yielded one unearned run on four hits and struck out four in a complete-game effort. Kate Nelson brought in the eventual winning run with a single in the top of the fifth inning.
Baldwin Park 11, Mountain View 1: Trinity Carrasco was tough to handle in the circle for the visiting Vikings as she allowed one run on four hits and fanned eight in a complete-game effort. Celeste De La Cueva had a big day offensive with three hits and driving in two runs.

AT THE PIZZA CHALET TOURNAMENT
South Hills 9, San Dimas 6: The Huskies scored four runs in the first inning, two runs in the second and fourth innings, and tacked another run in the sixth inning to defeat the Saints in the third-place game. Christian Gomez and Noah Malone had two run-scoring singles in the first inning and Paul Vasquez, an Oregon State signee, connected on a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Vaugh Coleman hit a solo home run in the first inning and Landon White went 2 for 3 with two RBIs. South Hills is back in action on Friday with a home game against Sherman Oaks Notre Dame at 2:45 p.m.
Arcadia 8, Montebello 0: Damian Catano looked sharp on the mound for the host Apaches as tossed six shutout innings, allowing four hits, and striking out four to pick up the win. Avery Truesdale connected on a two-run homer run.
Crescenta Valley 3, Walnut 2: J.J Rodriguez drove in two runs for the Mustangs.

San Marino 5. South El Monte 0: J.J. Wilson tossed a one-hitter and struck out seven in the Titans’ win over the visiting Eagles. Ryan Park went 2 for 3 with an RBI.
Sonora 1, Downey 0: Robbie Blaine allowed one hit in 6 1/3 innings with five strikeouts in the Raiders win over the Vikings. Angel Ramirez picked up the save.
Maranatha 6, Etiwanda 5: In their final game as part of the Prep Baseball Report tournament, the Minuteman opened a 6-0 lead and held off a late rally by the Eagles to pick up the win. UCLA commit Zach Strickland threw five shutout innings, allowing one hit and striking out eight. Lukus Perez and Gabriel Barragan each drove in two runs and A.J. Beltre collected two hits.
Ayala 3, Rancho Cucamonga: Caleb Trugman hit a home run for the Bulldogs.
St. Francis 7, Thousand Oaks 3: Holden Deitch brought in three runs for the Golden Knights in their win.
Los Altos 9, Nogales 3: Alex Maduray drove in two runs and Randy Mora struck out six in 5 2/3 innings of work to earn the decision.
Marshall 5, Flintridge Prep 0: Ethan Sparks tossed a two-hitter for the Eagles in their home win over the Wolves. Wes Pendleton hit a solo home run and accumulated three RBIs.
Rio Hondo Prep 13, Rosemead 2: Alex Mustain allowed one run on three hits in two innings of work to pick up the decision.
Bosco Tech 10, La Puente 0: David Gomez threw five shutout innings and fanned eight hitters.
Ocean View 3, California 1: Brandon Leiva struck out three hitters in a complete-game effort for the Condors.
Cathedral 3, South Pasadena 2: Aaron Kawasaki and Jesse Chavez brought in both Tigers’ runs in their loss to the visiting Phantoms.

WRESTLING
BOYS
At the CIF State Wrestling Championships in Bakersfield, only two area wrestlers have made Friday’s quarterfinals. Those two wrestlers are Northview’s Sunny Acuna (190 pounds), and Walnut’s Ronnie Ramirez (120).
Ramirez, a returning state champion, had little trouble in both of Thursday’s matches, a first-period pin over Ethan Larsen of Minareres and a 15-6 majority win over Micah Viloria of Merrill West.
Acuna was even more impressive as he won both of his matches, via a pin, over Treyvon Aubrey of Skyline and Juan Carlos Puga of Gilroy.
Here are the quarterfinal matchups that will take place on Friday.
120: (1) Ronnie Ramirez, Walnut vs. Josiah Sandoval, Elk Grove
190: (11) Sunny Acuna, Northview vs. (3) Brekton Borelli, Los Banos
GIRLS
It was a much better showing for area wrestlers in the girls division as 10 wrestlers punched their tickets to the quarterfinals.
Walnut led the parade of winners with four; Anaya Falcon (105), Deandra Meza (110), Eliana Garcia (120), and Jasmine Macias (130). Northview had two wrestlers make the quarterfinals and they are Faith Bartoszek (140) and Samantha Rivera (115)
Also advancing to the quarterfinals were Arroyo’s Destiny Huitron (100), Ayala’s BK Martinez (110), Gabrielino’s Juliana Marquez (190), and Glendora’s Samantha Sachs (125).
In the team points race, Walnut has a one-point lead over Gilroy 33-32.
