Bishop Amat defeats El Dorado in a thriller at National Classic; San Dimas defeats South Hills in baseball; Damien holds off Upland for Baseline League baseball win.

BASEBALL
At the National Classic Tournament in Orange County
Bishop Amat 2, El Dorado 1, 9 innings: In a game that could be a preview of a CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoff game, the Lancers scored the winning run in the top of the ninth inning on a single by Jordan Pasillas that brought in Daniel Marquez for an emotional semifinal win. Pasillas was also responsible for bringing in Amat’s first run of the game in the sixth inning with a single that scored Cameron Casado. Alejandro Morales stepped up a big way for coach Joe Hoggatt as he allowed one run on five hits and struck out two in 4 1/3 innings on the mound. Lorenzo Gomez held El Dorado at bay as allowed only three hits and picked up the win. Bishop Amat will take on Cypress in the tournament final on Thursday.

San Dimas 6, South Hills 1: In a matchup of two of the area’s biggest heavyweight baseball teams, San Dimas’ Jacob Becerra proved too much for South Hills to handle as he allowed one unearned run on six hits and struck out four in a complete-game performance in the Saints’ win. Senior Ayden Garcia went 3 for 3, and Jake Ferretti drove in two runs. South Hills’ Andres Mitat banged out two hits.

In other action in the area
Damien 1, Upland 0: Jason Armendariz scored the game’s only run on a double steal in the bottom of the second inning which proved to be the only offense output turned in as the Spartans took game two of a three-game series from the visiting Highlanders. Seth Sumner tossed five scoreless innings, allowing three hits, and fanned six hitters to earn the win. The Spartans will be looking for the series sweep on Friday.
La Mirada 12, Bellflower 2: The Matadores flaunted their explosive offensive lineup early in this Suburban League matchup as they scored four runs in the first inning and six more in the second to defeat the visiting Buccaneers. Andrew Pyle had two hits and drove in three runs. Ryan Coppock was steady on the mound for La Mirada as he pitched four scoreless innings, striking out two to earn the decision.
Arcadia 6, Redondo 1: Daniel Chavez looked sharp on the mound for the Apaches as he tossed a complete game, allowing one run on two hits and struck out five as Arcadia swept a home and home series from the Sea Hawks. Alex Dolan had a big day offensively with three hits, and Evan Huang contributed two hits and scored three runs.
La Serna 11, El Rancho 3: Sophomore Nikolas Ramirez tallied three hits with an RBI and Sean Rooney had two hits and drove in a run as the Lancers easily dispatched the Dons in a Del Rio League affair. Devin Fernandez pitched five solid innings, surrendering one earned run in two hits, and struck out six to pick up the win.
California 11, Santa Fe 2: The Condors got their offense going in a big way in the first inning as they scored six runs to easily turn back the Chiefs in a Del Rio League game. Sophomore Adrian Hernandez tossed six scoreless innings and earned the decision.
Sonora 8, Troy 1: Kirk Felikian and Izaak Fernandez each had doubles Marcus Hernandez and Jack Meek each drove in two runs as the Raiders easily defeated the host Warriors in a Freeway League game. Meek also proved to be a tough customer on the mound as he surrendered only one run on five hits and struck out eight to pick up the win.
Northview 8, Woods Cross 3: The Vikings rebounded from their loss yesterday to Segerstrom in a big way as they scored five runs in the second inning and cruised to an easy win at the Santa Ana Elks Tournament. Ivan Barragan and Matt Salgado each drove in two runs. Sal Batres allowed five hits and struck out six in a complete-game effort and picked up the win. In another game at the Elks Tournament, Covina got a huge pitching performance from Ryan Perez with a complete-game effort in a 13-1 win over Santa Ana.
Gabrielino 3, Marshall 2: Marshall’s Wes Pendleton drove in the Eagles’ only run and pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing one earned run on four hits and struck out six, but it was not good enough as Gabrielino scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn a Mission Valley League win.
La Puente 8, Bassett 6: The Warriors scored five runs in the first inning and tacked on two more in the fifth inning which proved to be the difference in an exciting Montview League win over the Olympians. Eduardo Tiscareno went 3 for 4, and Jesse Castillo drove in two runs.
Edgewood 14, Ganesha 4: The Lions took control of this Miramonte League game early by scoring four runs in the first inning with three runs in the second and third innings in a road victory. David Ramirez had three hits with 5 RBIs, and Raul Castro added three hits and brought in four runs.

SOFTBALL
Crescenta Valley 2, Glendora 1: The Falcons scored two runs in the first inning and made the most of them in an exciting non-league win over the visiting Tartans. Ashley Hibbard pitched four solid innings, striking out six. Amelie Arroyo went 3 for 3 with a double and scored a run.

Sonora 9, Fullerton 1: Lexi Ramirez hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning that helped propel the Raiders to a Freeway League win over the Indians. (add photo)
South El Monte 3, Arroyo 2: Yazmin Gonzalez was the hero of the day for the Eagles as her squeeze bunt in the bottom of the eighth inning scored Rachel Leon with the winning run as the Eagles pulled out a dramatic Mission Valley League win over the visiting Knights. South El Monte’s Jazmine Leyva went 3 for 4 and drove in a run. Leyva also pitched a complete game and earned the win. Arroyo’s Aureyana Melendrez went 3 for 3. In another Mission Valley League game, Gabrielino defeated Marshall, 16-0.
