BASEBALL
La Serna 7, Santa Fe 0: It’s been one heck of a week for pitchers in the area. South Hills’ Sterling Patick threw a no-hitter on Wednesday and La Serna’s junior left-handed pitcher Nick Williams tossed another no-hitter on Friday in a Del Rio League affair. Williams struck out nine Santa Fe hitters, but two Chiefs hitters got on base via a hit-by-pitch.
“What a performance from this kid,” La Serna coach Anthony Gonzales Jr said. “I’m so happy for him and the team. He has worked so hard that it truly showed today.”
Nikolas Ramirez had a nice day he banged out a double, which scored two runs, and drove in an additional run on a sacrifice fly. Nick Allred and Jake Long also drove in runs.
Chaminade 1, St. Francis 0: In another stellar pitching performance, Chaminade’s Peter Michaels threw a no-hitter and struck out 17 hitters in a Mission League win over the Golden Knights.
Bishop Amat 3, La Salle 2: In a game that featured terrific pitching, standout defensive plays, Bishop Amat’s Frankie Peralez hit a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning off La Salle starting pitcher Val Gomez to give the host Lancers a thrilling Del Rey League win. Sean Suriyaniel looked sharp on the mound as he allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out eight to pick up the win. Gomez surrendered two earned runs on seven hits and fanned two was the hard-luck loser. La Salle sophomore David Mysza had a double and a triple. Moises Escobedo and Jake Hernandez banged out doubles.
Serra 5, St. Paul 2: The Cavaliers broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the second hitting by scoring four runs to defeat the host Swordsmen in a Del Rey League game. Ethyn Diaz drove in St. Paul’s only run. Ethan Moran struck out five in a complete-game performance.
Arcadia 4, Hoover 1: The Apaches scored a run in the first run and two more in the second, which proved to be the difference in a Pacific League home win. Daniel Chavez and Zachary Huerta each drove in runs for Arcadia. Chavez also tossed four scoreless innings, allowing one hit, and struck out five to pick up the win.
Maranatha 9, Whittier Christian 2: The Minuteman broke open a tight game by scoring four runs in the top of the sixth inning and cruised to a win on the opening day of Olympic League action. Mikey Ebner had a home run and Nick Cook collected three hits. Ebner also allowed one run on two hits and fanned 5 to pick up the win.
Northview 8, Kaiser 4: The Vikings jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never looked back in defeating the Cats in a home non-league win. Dean Curley and Ivan Barragan each had two hits and Diego Frey drove in two runs for Northview. Andrew Granados struck out five in five innings of work to secure the win.
Schurr 7, Montebello 2: The Spartans broke this Almont League rivalry game wide open by scoring five runs in the top of the seventh inning for a huge road win. The Spartans didn’t get a hit until the top of the fifth inning. Cesar Esparza had two hits for Montebello.


Fullerton 7, La Habra 5: La Habra scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning, but Indians responded by scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings to pull out a Freeway League win. Maddox Moreno had a big day offensively for the Highlanders with three hits and drove in a run.
Pasadena Poly 12, Rio Hondo Prep 2, 5 innings: Bradley Schmoke, the son of Panthers football coach Chris Schmoke, had an outstanding day as he drove in five runs for Pasadena Poly in a Prep League win over the Kares. Eddie Konjoyan surrendered two runs on three hits and struck out six in four innings of work to earn the decision.

Whittier Christian 7, Walnut 0: It was the Brooklyn Carreon show on Friday as she tossed a complete-game one-hitter and struck out 8 in a Heralds win over the host Mustangs. She also had three RBIs.
Bonita 7, Western Christian 4: The Bearcats rallied from a 3-0 deficit by scoring two runs in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth for a home non-league win. Lauren Ureno and Mireya Rico each banged out two hits with Breanna Orosco and Alyssa Doucette each driving in two runs.
Temple City 10, Monrovia 6: The Rams scored five runs in the first inning and two more in the second and third innings to earn a home Rio Hondo League win. Sheridan Gonzalez and Samantha Womack each had two hits with Mya Gonzalez and Mia Guerrero each driving in two runs.
Northview 6, Colony 2: The Vikings got their offense going early by scoring three runs in the first inning and two more in the fourth for a non-league home win over the Titans. Joy Sanchez collected three hits and drove in two runs. Brittney Rivas allowed two runs on three hits and struck out seven in a complete-game effort to earn the decision.
San Gabriel 5, Gabrielino 4: Jaqueline Chivara was the toast of the town on Friday as her triple in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Maribelle Chavez with the winning run as the Matadors defeated the Eagles in an exciting non-league game. Bianca Canizal fanned hitters in a complete-game effort and picked up the win.
